Spread between neighborhood taquerías and restaurants with longer menus. Bellavista and Plaza Ñuñoa concentrate the night-time offer, with mezcal and cocktails.
The Mexican community in Chile is small, but its cuisine reached Santiago in the 1990s through film, television and the first taco and burrito restaurants, often with adapted or Tex-Mex-inspired recipes. Bellavista was its first neighborhood and still concentrates much of the nighttime offer.
Over the last decade taquerías and kitchens closer to the original appeared: tacos al pastor, mole, cochinita pibil, tortillas made on site and a list of mezcals and tequilas that grows every year. Plaza Ñuñoa, Barrio Italia and Lastarria joined Bellavista as the places to eat serious Mexican food, and Mexican street food is now a fixture at food courts and food fairs.
